My new foster dog...

Okay, so things are crazy busy here...
Quick update:
Last weekend was the long but wonderful All About Pets Show at the International centre in Mississauga. Busy, busy but lots of educational stuff (opening people's minds to the concept of adoption versus buying their animals) and quite a few animals found homes through leads at the show. This included 8 hamsters that found homes from the show - and didn't need to come home with me - pheeewwww! ;o)

My darling three legged boy Dexy found his forever home as well. I was super sad but very happy for him. The family is lovely and he apparently waltzed into the house, greeted the resident cat, and they wandered off like they had known each other forever. Nice!

This week has been the normal rounds of vet visits, phone calls to answer and emails, but i really, really have to tell you about the new guy.

I am not sure about his name yet, although I am leaning towards "Tomten".

According to my research..."Tomten are a race of spirit beings well-known to the north Europeans. Generally, they are considered to be spirits of place who become familiars of a household - similar to gnomes. The tomte is a short elderly man of unpredictable disposition. They can be impulsive and cranky. Spying on tomtes is not recommended."

The reason I think this might suit him? He is a teeny little old man chihuahua, who thinks he is super fierce (but had all of his teeth removed). He actually hides under his blankets (in a small kitty bed!)and growls at you from under the pile.

If you uncover him (to spy on him) he gets all huffy and complains until you cover him up again. He really isn't that fierce though - if you manage to gently pick him up he shivers and shakes but doesn't try anything. He is going to be fine - a little time and treats will show him that it is nicer to purr at people than growl...

Pictures will be posted once I can get him out from under his blankets for more than a few seconds...

I hope all is well in your part of the world today!

take care, and hug your critters today!
shelly and crew =^..^=

Love the name Tomten. There's a children's book called that... He sounds like a real sweetie - looking forward to the photos!

My little Timmy can be like that. I'm so glad you can show him there is nothing to be afraid of.
